“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.” John 15:5-6
Jesus told His disciples in simple terms that those who are connected to Him will bear abundant fruit and those who cut themselves off from a Union with Christ will bear limited fruit and most times, no fruit.
We live in a society where individuals are bearing fruits, not necessarily the fruits of the Spirit (found in Galatians 55: 22-23) that come from being connected with Christ; interestingly most times we are fooled into thinking that we can bear fruits of the Spirit without having a genuine connection with Christ. My friends if we are not connected with Christ we will produce fruits of the FLESH that will lead others slowly away from Christ. Also, we sometimes inadvertently believe that when we reach the zen of our personal development and have acquired enough knowledge of the world we bear good fruits.
Good fruits only come from Christ.
The truth is that there are many persons who are bearing ordinary fruits but not enough individuals who are bearing the fruits of the Spirit; and we cannot bear the fruits of the Spirit unless we are connected to Christ. Though we may bear fruits that can change our mood or a moment, are we bearing the fruits of the Spirit that can change ones life?
This is a call for a genuine connection with Christ that will produce the things that God wants us to produce and bear for his glory.
This is a call for a deeper relationship with Christ that will transform our lives.
A deep relationship with Christ builds a connection with Christ and it maintains an experience that breathes love, tenderness, kindness, compassion and affection. A connection with Christ refreshes the souls of everyone we come into contact with. A connection with Christ allows us to bask in the sweetness of Jesus even when our present circumstances call for bitterness and anger. When we are connected with Christ His truth shines in our hearts and on our lives, we become His true representatives and His character is revealed in our influence and thoughts and actions.
Are you truly connected with Christ or is the thought of being connected with Christ a treasured thought that only exists in your mind?
If we are connected with Christ, the fruits of our lives will testify to that privileged union.
Today, begin the journey toward having a deeper connection with Christ – spend time in His word, speak to Him, sing songs unto Him, fellowship with fellow brothers and sisters in Christ and allow the Holy Spirit into your heart….I guarantee you that when you do this before you know it, you will begin to realize that the fruits in your life that you are producing will change for the better and be more Christlike.
