Honey Dips – Keep the Main Thing the Main Thing

“The signs of the times give evidence that the judgments of heaven are being poured out, that the day of the Lord is at hand. The daily papers are full of indications of an intense conflict in the future. Bold robberies are of frequent occurrence. Strikes are common. Thefts and murders are committed on every hand. Men possessed by demons are taking the lives of men, women, and little children. All these things testify that the Lord’s coming is near.

The restraining Spirit of God is even now being withdrawn from the world. Hurricanes, storms, tempests, disasters by sea and by land, follow one another in quick succession. The signs thickening around us, telling of the near approach of the Son of God, are attributed to any other than the true cause. . . .

The time is right upon us when there will be sorrow in the world that no human balm can heal…. But amid the tumult of excitement, with confusion in every place, there is a work to be done for God in the world.” Ellen G. White —Maranatha, p. 175.

One look at the news and we can testify that our times are changing. Prophecies are fulfilling. Nations and people are angrier than ever. Organizations are plotting against organizations. The injustices have increased. Strange events now define our history. Violence and death and pain have become normal aspects of our day. The climate is dramatically changing.

With so much happening, the question, “What are we doing to improve the short time that we have been given on the earth?” is brought to the fore of my mind.

What are we doing?

Have we become distracted in finding love, pursuing dreams and professional development, exceeding our peers’ successes, traveling the world, possessing material goods, becoming a better version of ourselves, building a heaven on earth?

Have we become so distracted by Satan that we have taken our eyes and attention off of the Lord?  Have we become so caught up in our routines and pursuits of happiness that our attention is drawn away from God, His Word, and His plan and purpose for our lives?

Yes. (Lord Help Us!)

We have become so entangled with the daily demands of our lives that many of us have lost sight of the main reason we are here on earth – to be God’s earthly ambassadors and tell the entire world of him.

We need to ask God to remove the scales from our eyes and show us how desperately we are in need of HIS presence in our lives. We do not need another job, another relationship, another dress, another achievement, what we need is Christ.

What we need is a deeper passion for Christ and everything of Christ.

I am not suggesting that God’s children should be mediocre, in fact we should be the head and not the tale! Consider Deuteronomy 28: 13, “The LORD will make you the head, not the tail. If you pay attention to the commands of the LORD your God that I give you this day and carefully follow them, you will always be at the top, never at the bottom.” We should be the best because we serve a God who is the Best!

But in all your pursuing and succeeding, Jesus should be the captian of your ship, the one you speak most about, the one you rejoice in, the one you are living for!

Our thoughts must be centered upon God.

Now is the time to put forth earnest effort to overcome the natural tendencies of the carnal heart. This is the time to be drawn closer to Christ. This is the time to remain in God’s light and seek His face diligently. This is the time to keep the main thing the main thing and the main thing is Jesus. When we do that all other blessings will come along our way.

We are standing on the threshold of great and solemn events. We need not become afraid or overwhelmed but we must keep our focus on Christ.

So today don’t become so discouraged by your circumstances and feelings that your focus becomes your circumstances and emotions. Keep your eyes and focus on God. Don’t become so caught up in defeat that your focus becomes on how you will rise again. Keep your eyes and focus on God. Don’t become so distracted by entertainment, amusement, recreation, the new or old relationship that your focus is shifted from God.  Keep your eyes and focus on God.

Keep the main thing the main thing today – God.
