The chilling reality is that most of us live for the acceptance of others and end up dying from their rejection. What is even more frightening is that most of us are not even aware of the amount of power we give others in dictating our lives; we do not realize how delicately and dangerously we allow our self worth to hinge on the opinions of others.
What drives us to live for the approval of others?
Fear of rejection — be it learn’t or cultivated.
We allow the fear of being rejected by others to force us to conform to the mold others desire for us to live within. Our fear of our self worth being rejected also gives others permission to manipulate us and dictate how we should live out the truth of our lives.
Is there a cure?
Yes, there is always a cure to earth’s problems!
The simple cure for ending the cycle of fruitlessly living for the approval for others is possessing a thorough knowledge of who you are in Christ; that knowledge of your God-blessed identity changes the chilling reality of living in fear of rejection and for the approval of others.
When I know who I am in Christ, the rejection of others is not equivalent to the end of my existence. When I know who I am in Christ, I can live for Christ in bold, Godly, unapologetic ways. When I know who I am in Christ, I can be peaceful and confident in trying situations that attempt to dictate or rob me of my self worth. When I know who I am in Christ, I do not have to conform or comprise my Christianity to be considered worthy among colleagues and associates. When I know who I am in Christ, I begin to truly live.
So, place God first. Seek Christ and allow Him to show you who He created you to be. Build a relationship with Him and allow Him to give you a new perspective and heart and help you to place the opinions of others where they rightfully belong.
